What is needed to #EndEnergyPoverty?

In conversation with Rachel Kyte, CEO of Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) & Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General.

SNV was founded in the Netherlands in 1965, and brings more than 50 years of on-the-ground experience to today's development challenges. Founded as an affiliate of SNV in 2007, SNV USA was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) United States-based non-profit organization in 2012. SNV USA provides innovative solutions in Agriculture, Energy, and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene to alleviate poverty through sustainable and locally-led development in disadvantaged communities around the world.

Within these sectors we incorporate cross-cutting initiatives including governance, gender and youth inclusion, and natural resources management. We employ contextualized solutions as diverse as the communities in which we operate, taking into account local government and the private sector, regional histories, and the unique challenges and opportunities of each project.

In Agriculture our work has touched the lives of millions in need through programs that facilitate income generation, create sustainable markets and inclusive value chains, increase food security and nutrition equity, enable gender and youth inclusion, and introduce climate resilient agriculture. Through our initiatives in Water, Sanitation & Hygiene, millions of people have gained access to sustainable and safe sources of water, and enjoy improved sanitation and hygiene. Our experience in Energy spans more than 25 years; currently we are implementing energy projects in 45 countries. Our projects create equitable access to clean energy, while lessening dependence on fossil fuels to combat deforestation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
