Promoting Climate-resilient Agricultural Value chains
South Sudan,
ongoing
This project falls under the EU framework "Promoting a Green and Resilient Economy in South Sudan."
The Promoting Climate-Resilient Agricultural Value Chains (PCAV) project in South Sudan’s Equatoria region directly supports the EU’s Priority Area 1 of the Multi-Annual Indicative Programme (MIP) for South Sudan (2021–2027): Green and Resilient Economy—food security, jobs for youth, economic diversification, and climate change.
PCAV contributes to three key objectives:
(1) Improved food and nutrition security, prevention, and preparedness for food crises;
(2) Increased production, productivity, and climate resilience for a more competitive, sustainable, and modern agriculture;
(3) Enhanced economic empowerment in agricultural and value chain development (targeting women, youth, and men). The project also contributes to the Team Europe Initiative (TEI) “Human development, jobs, and economic growth for a resilient and stable society in South Sudan.”
The project intends to reach 9,250 farming households with improved, sustainable production, improved access to markets, and increased incomes. It will also contribute to youth employment, gender equality, growth in MSMEs, and linkages with companies. The target areas are the Counties of Juba, Torit, and Yambio. The selected value chains are cereals, vegetables, and fruits. It also aims to contribute to stronger local farmer organisations, service providers with the capacity to work on value chain development, and to a more efficient, sustainable, and resilient food system in a still vulnerable and fragile South Sudan.

Towards resilient agriculture and livelihoods in South Sudan
The project aims to contribute to a shift from humanitarian to long-term development approaches by working with local communities and the private sector, fostering a more stable and prosperous South Sudan.
It focuses on:
Strengthening agricultural livelihoods by increasing productive capacity, improving food and nutrition security, and enhancing adaptation to climate change.
Developing a more competitive and sustainable agricultural sector through resilient, context-specific value chains, improved access to services, and the empowerment of women and youth.
Enhancing smallholders’ capacity for production, climate change adaptation, and shock preparedness in food production.
Ensuring sustainable access for smallholders to inputs for climate-adapted production.
Strengthening the capacity of value chain actors for market participation and growth.
Promoting access to finance for value chain actors, women, and youth.
Expanding opportunities for women’s participation and leadership in decision-making.
Providing decision-makers at county and state levels with scalable strategic learning experiences to improve rural livelihoods.
