SNV presents at Innovate4Climate 2017

SNV is participating in the upcoming Innovate4Climate which takes place in Barcelona May 22-25. The aim of this event is to progress a new global dialogue between government, multilateral business, banking and finance leaders focused on shaping the next generation of climate finance and policy instruments.

The event will include a two-day conference, workshops, side events, and a networking and exhibition area built around six thematic streams: Scaling Up NDCs, Carbon Markets, De-risking Investments, Climate Resilient Development, Green Growth Policies, and Metrics and Tools. Jan Lam, Senior Biogas Advisor, SNV will present a session during the event on the co-benefits of the biogas programme in Burkina Faso.

The National Biodigester Programme in Burkina Faso (PNB-BF) was set up in 2009 to disseminate domestic biodigesters as a local, sustainable energy source through the development of a commercial, market-oriented sector. Its overall goal is the installation of 18,000 digesters by 2018 and the development of local capacities in a multi-stakeholder environment.

PNB-BF is a joint undertaking of the Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries (MRAH), SNV and Hivos. It is also part of the Africa Biogas Partnership Programme, which provides financial and technical support to set-up and develop national biogas programmes in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

By the end of 2016, a total of 8,550 biodigesters were installed under PNB-BF resulting in 30,000 ton reduction of firewood used and the production of 160,000 tons of high quality compost annually.
