Consultancy Announcement: Feasibility Study Alternate Wetting & Drying Carbon Project Design

Overall Project Background:
SOGE, a Cambodian company leading in solar-powered irrigation, with support from SNV-DFCD, plans to expand solar irrigation to 18 new schemes. Flooded rice paddies emit significant methane (CH₄). Introducing Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) can cut emissions by up to 40%. This consultancy will assess the feasibility of developing a carbon project preferably under Article 6 mechanism, leveraging carbon revenues to incentivize farmers and sustain AWD adoption.
Objectives:
- To study the feasibility of generating carbon credits through AWD/mid-season drainage in a sample of SOGE’s irrigation schemes.
- To identify steps enabling SOGE/SNV to realise a carbon project under article 6 with potential market such as the JCM.
- To provide a draft carbon project document.
Job Description
- Inception report: detailing the methodology to be applied and comprehensive work plan, stakeholder engagement strategy. Present the findings from the desk review, the information gaps and the research actions to get answers on these gaps.
- Feasibility Report: Feasibility assessment of the 5 schemes, covering infrastructure, social and finance aspects.
- Roadmap Clear roadmap with recommended steps for SOGE/SNV to realise the carbon project.
- Carbon Project Design Document. A skeleton project design document with key scoping information.
Qualifications
- A varied team of international and national experts with knowledge of Irrigation design, rice agronomy, Business Analysis etc
- Proven experience of assessing AWD and developing rice carbon projects.
- Experience on Article 6 and JCM (or any other suggested scheme under art 6)
