    Job Description

    The Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA) is an initiative led by the World Food Programme (WFP) and implemented by SNV Rwanda with a strategic focus on increasing the incomes and resilience of smallholder farmers. FtMA’s vision is to build sustainable food systems by strengthening markets, empowering smallholder farmers to increase their yields, incomes, resilience, and contributing to global food security.

    The Project Field Officer supports the implementation of the Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA) project at field level. The role focuses on ensuring high-quality delivery of FtMA interventions aimed at strengthening farmer organizations (cooperatives/FSCs), improving agricultural practices and facilitating access to markets and services. The Field Officer works closely with cooperatives/FSCs, private sector partners, and local authorities.  

    Key Responsibilities

    Service and process delivery

    • Support farmer organizations (coops/FSCs) to adopt standards on governance, GAP, PHHS, aggregation, and business practices. 
    • Facilitate and deliver farmer trainings, coaching sessions, and demonstrations as per the project workplans. 
    • Support pre-harvest contracting, aggregation planning, and coordination with buyers and service providers.
    • Provide regular field-based technical assistance, demonstrations, and farmer guidance.

    Internal and external communication

    • Maintain regular communication with Project coordinator and M&E teams on progress, challenges, and risks. 
    • Engage proactively with cooperatives, district authorities, buyers, financial institutions, and other FtMA stakeholders. 
    • Represent FtMA at local coordination meetings and field-level engagements.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment on project goals, timelines, and deliverables..

    Project data handling

    • Collect accurate field-level data on trainings, adoption rates, production, aggregation, and market linkages.
    • Verify, document, and submit data using approved SNV/WFP tools and systems. 
    • Flag data inconsistencies, safeguarding concerns, or implementation risks promptly. 
    • Manage and maintain organized, updated project databases for easy access by relevant stakeholders.

    Process improvement

    • Monitor quality of FtMA service delivery at field level and propose practical improvements.
    • Share lessons learned and best practices with the project team to improve efficiency and impact. 

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree Agriculture, Agribusiness, Food science and related studies.
    • Minimum 3 years’ work experience in field-level agricultural development, cooperatives, or farmer organizations
    • Demonstrated experience in farmer training, capacity-building, or extension services.
    • Knowledge of value chains, market systems, and farm-to-market linkages. 
    • Familiarity with digital tools for reporting, data collection, and e-services. 
    • Experience working with farmers associations/cooperatives, NGOs, development programs, or public sector agricultural projects is a plus.
    • Good representation and interpersonal skills, ability to liaise with partners and government officials
    • Must be prepared for frequent field travel, including extended visits to rural and remote areas.
    • Fluent Kinyarwanda speaker, good English command.

    Additional Information

    Contract Duration: A year with the possibility of extension

    Desired start date: February 2026
