Internship summary
The Project Intern will play a supportive yet hands-on role in the implementation of SNV Ethiopia’s SEE-Clean Cooking – Higher Tier Cooking Component (SEE-CC/HTCC). The intern will assist in stove performance testing, data management, and project documentation, while gaining valuable field and office-based experience in Ethiopia’s clean energy transition. The position offers a unique opportunity to apply engineering knowledge to real-world development projects, helping to ensure quality and data-driven implementation in the clean cooking sector.
This internship supports SNV’s broader ambition of advancing SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) through inclusive, market-based solutions.
Job Description
Role Description:
- Data Management, Cleaning, and Verification (40%)
- Double check verification undertaken by government institutions
- Doble check the eligibility of households’ selection to be undertaken by government institute
- Provide Coupon to selected end users. A coupon is a voucher used during stove delivery to link the end user, stove supplier, and SNV. It helps track the type and number of stoves delivered. The end user gives the coupon to the supplier when receiving the stove. The supplier then uses the coupon, along with documents from the government office, to request payment. A verifier checks the coupon copy to confirm the claim
- Support verification and cleaning of field data from stove deployments and usage monitoring.
- Organize datasets and assist in basic statistical analysis and visualization.
- Contribute to data-informed reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
- Stove Performance Testing and Standards Support (30%)
- Assist the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE) in operating emissions and performance testing equipment.
- Participate in testing clean cooking stoves, including electric and improved biomass models.
- Document testing processes, results, and learning points.
- Documentation and Knowledge Management (20%)
- Draft technical briefs, progress reports, and learning notes.
- Archive test results, data tools, and project documents.
- Create visuals and summaries to support communication and visibility efforts.
- Additional Support (10%)
- Attend team meetings, field visits, and trainings.
- Provide general technical and administrative assistance as required by the Project Manager and technical leads.
DELIVERABLES
- Verification report
- Stove testing support provided with accurate documentation and quality assurance.
- Cleaned and organized datasets submitted in usable formats.
- Project learning documents and briefs developed and archived.
- Effective participation in team activities and contribution to smooth implementation.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Technology, or related field preferably fresh graduate.
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
- Demonstrated computer skills, especially with MS Excel and data tools.
- Basic knowledge of drawing/design software and converting files into usable formats.
- Familiarity with stove performance testing and clean cooking technologies is an asset.
Other Competencies:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Highly organized and self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Strong ethical conduct and respect for confidentiality.
