SNV Bhutan

From Gasa’s highlands to Zhemgang’s valleys, SNV's partnership with the Royal Government of Bhutan helped advance inclusive, sustainable development and strengthen climate resilience.

Present since1988-2025

Projects1

From 1988 to 2025, SNV worked in close partnership with the Royal Government of Bhutan and a wide range of local partners.

Alongside ministries, agencies, local governments, private sector actors, and civil society, we supported Bhutan’s development priorities and initiatives in rural water supply, irrigation, agriculture, soil and forest management, eco-friendly road construction, community-based tourism, and clean energy.

Over more than three decades, our work has remained guided by Bhutan’s Development Vision and Five-Year Plans. The government’s trust in us allowed SNV to participate in the country’s development journey—innovating together and learning from each other.

With Bhutan’s significant development achievements, SNV closed its country office in August 2025. We’ve done so with deep appreciation—for the trusted partnership and collaboration, and with the hope that the lessons learned together will continue to be of value now and in the years to come.

Our publications and resources remain available for those who wish to explore them further, and you are welcome to reach out to us by email should you wish to connect.

Thank you, Bhutan.
