Abstract
This paper examines equity-based partnership models in Cambodia's agricultural sector, with smallholder cooperatives participating as shareholders in commercial joint ventures. The model introduces arrangements that provide farmers with access to enhanced market integration, increased decision-making authority, and improved financial stability. The analysis presents two cases: the collaboration between Amru Rice and the Cambodian Agricultural Cooperative Company (CACC), and the joint venture between Signatures of Asia and Heritage Palm Sugar Cooperative. The model—supported by the IAP Challenge Fund—presents a paradigm shift from traditional buyer-supplier relationships toward genuine partnership structures that align commercial and social objectives.
