  • Abstract

Livestock supports the livelihoods of over 110 million people across Africa's drylands, yet an estimated 80% of pastoralists in Sub-Saharan Africa live below the poverty line. Climate change, resource competition, and insecurity are intensifying these vulnerabilities, threatening both pastoral systems and the communities that depend on them. SNV's Inclusive Pastoralism approach works across landscape, value chain, and local production levels to equip pastoralists and agro-pastoralists with the tools, knowledge, and partnerships needed to build resilient livelihoods. Key interventions include geodata-informed land use planning, mobile information systems for herd management, climate risk assessments, co-managed livestock markets, and integrated agroforestry practices.

Through 15 projects across Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Kenya, SNV applies inclusive, climate-smart approaches to drive lasting change.
