  • Abstract

Demand-driven research can help Ethiopia’s dairy sector develop solutions that respond to the needs of producers and businesses. Structured partnerships, clear intellectual property frameworks, co-funding mechanisms, and strong innovation platforms can sustain collaboration between researchers and private-sector actors, thereby supporting investment and the wider adoption of market-relevant solutions.

Participants in the BRIDGE+ research and development side event at the 10th African Livestock Exhibition & Congress (ALEC) emphasised the need for timely, coordinated action for dairy development. Taking these forward will require policymakers, researchers, businesses, and development practitioners to align their efforts and translate recommendations into practice. This can strengthen the dairy sector’s contribution to food and nutrition security, improved livelihoods, and Ethiopia’s economy.
