  • Abstract

The Dutch Fund for Climate and Development (DFCD) Origination Facility, managed by SNV and WWF-NL, supports promising enterprises in emerging markets and Least Developed Countries to unlock investment and scale climate-resilient, inclusive business models. Many high-impact enterprises have strong growth potential but struggle to access larger-scale finance due to gaps in investment readiness, technical capacity, or risk management. The Origination Facility bridges this gap through tailored technical assistance and catalytic financial support that helps businesses strengthen their operations, meet investor requirements, and prepare for debt or equity financing.

Through its country-embedded approach, SNV identifies and supports enterprises with the potential to deliver both commercial success and measurable climate impact. Support includes business model refinement, technical and market assessments, environmental and social safeguards, gender equality and social inclusion integration, and investment preparation. By working closely with companies, investors, and local partners, the Origination Facility helps transform promising ideas into scalable investment opportunities.

To date, SNV, through the Origination Facility, has supported 30 enterprises across 11 countries, mobilising €81 million in private finance, with a further €124 million projected. These investments are expected to contribute to climate adaptation, improved livelihoods, sustainable land management, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

This factsheet highlights SNV’s approach to climate investment origination, demonstrating how targeted support can de-risk enterprises, mobilise private capital, and drive systemic change. Through examples from across Africa and Asia, it showcases how businesses are strengthening climate resilience while contributing to more sustainable and inclusive economies.
