The stories of young people shaping Kenya's agrifood secotr
A collection of stories showcasing how young people are building enterprises, strengthening food systems, and creating sustainable livelihoods through the EKYAN project.
Abstract
Young people are playing a critical role in shaping the future of Kenya's agrifood sector. This publication brings together stories from participants in the Engaging Kenyan Youth in Agriculture and Nutrition (EKYAN) project, highlighting how entrepreneurship, skills development and innovation are creating new opportunities across Busia, Kisumu and Samburu counties.
Through practical training, business development support, market linkages and access to finance, young women and men are establishing enterprises, adding value to agricultural products, strengthening local food systems and building more resilient livelihoods. The stories also demonstrate how inclusive approaches are enabling women, young mothers and persons with disabilities to participate meaningfully in agribusiness and enterprise development. More than individual success stories, the publication illustrates how investing in youth entrepreneurship contributes to stronger local economies, improved nutrition and more sustainable agrifood systems.
Together, these stories reflect the ambition, resilience and innovation of young people who are creating opportunities for themselves while contributing to inclusive and sustainable development in their communities.
