GIGI: Supporting clean energy innovation in Viet Nam
How is GIGI accelerating clean energy innovation by helping Vietnamese SMEs scale sustainable technologies and climate solutions?
Abstract
The Green Innovation Grants Initiative (GIGI) is a competitive grant facility supporting Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) developing high-potential clean energy innovations that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions reductions. GIGI helps enterprises pilot, commercialise and scale solutions in energy efficiency, renewable energy, low-emission transportation and other clean energy applications. Selected SMEs can receive grants of €15,000–25,000 per project, alongside tailored capacity building, peer learning, technical advisory services, investment readiness support, ESG alignment and matchmaking with financiers and ecosystem partners. GIGI focuses on commercially viable innovations with measurable environmental impact and long-term scaling potential. Priority consideration is given to women-led enterprises and businesses demonstrating strong commitments to gender equality and social inclusion. GIGI is a work package of the Shifting Investment Flows Towards Green Transformation (SHIFT) project, managed by SNV. Through mobilising private-sector innovation and strengthening conditions for sustainable investment, the initiative contributes to Viet Nam’s transition towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy.
Donors and Partners
GIGI is implemented under the Shifting Investment Flows Towards Green Transformation (SHIFT) project, which is funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), and implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Finance of Viet Nam and the State Bank of Viet Nam.
