Opportunities for Youth Employment (OYE) private sector study

  • Abstract

This research report examines private-sector engagement in youth employment in Zambia and Zimbabwe under SNV’s Opportunities for Youth Employment (OYE) programme. Using qualitative methods such as interviews and focus group discussions, the study explores experiences of private companies and young people, identifies challenges, and highlights best practices for sustainable engagement.

Key findings show SNV’s success in life skills training and in the inclusion of young people who have been marginalised, while recommending improvements in career counselling, mentorship, and savings education. The report proposes an emergent model centred on career guidance, business etiquette, and value-addition to strengthen youth employability and private-sector partnerships.
