  • Abstract

The Sustainable Coffee Exchange (SCE) project aims to improve environmental and social sustainability in Viet Nam’s coffee sector by strengthening the adoption of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices. Implemented from 2026 to 2029 in Lam Dong and Son La provinces, the project works with micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), cooperatives, business associations, civil society organisations, community actors and local government. SCE provides technical assistance, tailored coaching and practical tools to help MSMEs and cooperatives assess and improve their ESG performance and facilitate access to investment. It also strengthens the capacity of non-state actors to engage in responsible business practices, generate evidence and participate meaningfully in multi-stakeholder dialogue. Key activities include an ESG Scorecard and action plans, an online ESG Resource Hub, Citizen-Generated Data Initiatives, investor matchmaking and recognition for ESG leadership. Through these interventions, SCE seeks to create a stronger enabling environment for responsible and sustainable business, improve ESG practices among coffee enterprises and cooperatives, and strengthen the participation of communities and other non-state actors in the governance of Viet Nam’s coffee sector.
