Community Development Project Tra Vinh (CDP Tra Vinh)
Vietnam,
ongoing
The CDP Tra Vinh project aims to improve local livelihoods by developing inclusive horticulture and aquaculture value chains.
The Community Development Project Tra Vinh (CDP Tra Vinh) will be implemented in 36 months, from August 2023 to July 2026. The project aims to improve local livelihoods through the development of inclusive horticulture and aquaculture value chains that promote climate-smart and sustainable production, support women's economic empowerment, and enhance access to finance of local stakeholders.
In 2022, SNV coordinated with Tra Vinh Wind Power No.1 Joint Stock Company (TWPC) and Ecotech Tra Vinh Renewables JSC (Ecotech) the implementation of the Community Development Project Tra Vinh (CDP Tra Vinh). After more than a year of implementation, over 20,000 meters of extension pipelines have been installed, providing clean water to 1,233 households, of which 957 households in TWPC's project area and 276 households in Ecotech's project area, serving more than 5,500 residents. In parallel, awareness activities on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) were conducted for thousands of local people. This is a steppingstone to design a long-term community development project.
The CDP project is implemented in Truong Long Hoa and Long Toan communes of Duyen Hai town and Ngu Lac commune of Duyen Hai district, and comprises of three main components:
Improving sustainable and climate-smart production: through enhancing farmers’ capacity in climate-smart and sustainable production, adopting modern knowledge and technologies, and meeting market standards and demands for clean and safe products.
Developing inclusive horticulture and aquaculture value chains: through establishment and strengthening of horticulture and aquaculture value chains to professionalise agri-businesses and production, and supporting trade promotion and marketing of products, thereby improving income for actors of the value chains.
Enhancing gender equality and women's economic empowerment: through raising awareness about gender equality, empowering women's capacity in businesses and supporting women's economic development along the value chains.
SNV has supported Tra Vinh province in programs and projects on smart agriculture, renewable energy, and biogas. The CDP Tra Vinh project has great significance for the socio-economic development of the project area and Tra Vinh province in general. The project promises to bring many positive changes to the local community, especially helping to improve clean water and sanitation systems - one of the themes that SNV is focusing on in Vietnam.
