Agriculture contributes around 17% to Bangladesh’s GDP and employs 40% of the country’s workforce. The rapid population growth exerts considerable pressure on the scarce natural resources of the country. Therefore, there is an urgent need for more efficient and sustainable agricultural production. The Intelligent Decision Support Systems project project aims to make the sector more efficient and increase farmers' income. ACI ltd. is lead partner in the project. It is funded by the Netherlands Space Office (NSO) and runs from 2015 until mid 2018.

Within this project, SNV facilitates the provision of crop-specific and timely information for farmers, based on geodata. The following steps are being taken:

  • With the goal to increase farmers' incomes, we help improve their decision making along the production cycle by providing planning and production advice.

  • We support the capacity development of local service providers (lead farmers, input retailers, extension workers), aiming to improve the knowledge base of farmers' points of information.

  • We create sustainable business models for IDSS in order to ensure new sources of revenue for the software.
