Ghana National Learning Event on school feeding

The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) and their school feeding partners are gathering at the Institute of Local Government Studies for a National Learning Event (19-20 Nov.) to discuss the programme’s agricultural mandate and, specifically, how to increase smallholder farmer participation in the programme. The event, entitled 'Sustaining the Ghana School Feeding Programme: Opportunities, Challenges and Lessons', is organized by GSFP in collaboration with SNV's Procurement Governance for Home Grown School Feeding (PG-HGSF) project, the World Food Program, and the Partnership for Childhood Development.

The event kicks off with remarks from the Hon. Minister for Local Government and Rural Development and will include a presentation of the GSFP’s agricultural model. National and district-level government representatives will join school feeding partners to explore how the school feeding landscape has changed in the past year and to identify lessons learned through linking smallholder farmers to the school feeding programme. School caterers, farmer organizations, and rural banks will also share their experience participating in the programme.

“The National Learning Event highlights GSFP’s commitment to agricultural development through the purchase and use of local farm produce for the Programme,” observed Mawuko Fumey, SNV Country Coordinator. “The event creates a dialogue between the government and implementers at the district level around how to best realize the programme’s agriculture goal.”

The November event is GSFP’s second annual learning event on school feeding. Results will be shared on the PG-HGSF project page.
