Learning event on behaviour change in WASH

An Asia Regional Learning Event on "Behaviour Change Communication for Sanitation & Hygiene" is underway at Kichu Resort Paro. This four day long programme is from 9 - 12 March 2015.

This is the first Asia regional workshop in this field being held in Bhutan. This workshop is part of the Sustainable Sanitation & Hygiene For All (SSH4A) programme implemented by SNV Bhutan in partnership with the Public Health Engineering Division (PHED), under the Department of Public Health, Ministry of health. This event is hosted by SNV Bhutan with the PHED, facilitated by SNV global WASH programme & IRC International Water & Sanitation Centre with funding from the Dutch Government & Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT) of the Australian Government.

The participants of this learning event are Government & public sector officials, local capacity building firms, SNV advisors, and international & local development practitioners and professionals from Lao PDR, Bangladesh, Nepal, Cambodia, Indonesia & Bhutan. From Bhutan, the participants are from the Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Works & Human Settlement (MoWHS), Ministry of Education (MoE), Dratshang Lhentshog (Central Monastic Body), District administrations, local capacity building firms, and SNV Bhutan.

The main objectives of this learning event is to:

  • Exchange ideas and deepen our understanding of the process of behaviour change communication to improve sanitation and hygiene behaviours.

  • Look at different strategies, innovations, the role of different stakeholders and the different motivators and barriers for rural men and women.

  • Discuss human resource challenge in scaling up, how to have sufficient people in the right place, and how to build learning and capacity into the process
