World Water Day: Meeting the needs of adolescent girls for menstrual hygiene management
Happy World Water Day from SNV Zambia!
We would like to use this day to highlight an important challenge faced by many adolescent girls in rural Zambia. Due to social stigma and poor or no access to water, convenient facilities and sanitary pads in schools, many girls in remote villages in Zambia opt to stay home for a week each month during their menses. This drastically limits their education. This is why SNV Zambia established and traind women-led groups to create micro-enterprises that produce low-cost, locally-made sanitary pads for women and girls in rural areas in Northern and Muchinga Provinces to help them.
